ILP Design - Edmodo

For this project I created an Edmodo class.

I sent out a poll to see what kind of music my students like because I would like to play music as they come into the classroom, but I want it to be music that they enjoy.

I also uploaded the story of the lion and the mouse that I made in my other learning project, both the prezi with pictures and a text version, that way the students can choose which version they want to read.

Following the reading I posted a quiz for them to complete and turn in.

I really enjoy Edmodo and will definitely use it with my classes in the future. I enjoy how easy it is to send out assignments and create folders for missing assignments and such and have it all in one place. The more I play around with it the more it excites me that I will be able to use it with my own students soon.

ILP Design - The Lion and The Mouse (Prezi)

So for this project I decided to do something similar to what we did in class and created a Prezi to tell the story of the Lion and the Mouse. It's a common fable about how kindness is important and one kind act now can be returned in the future. I really like this story and I think that fables are a great way to teach students morals so I would personally want to include something like this into an actual lesson that I will teach in the future.

8 Tech Talk

I personally really like the AlwaysPrepped tool which allows teachers "to gather their students’ progress from multiple resources and then to numerically and visually analyze achievement. This helps teachers to better target instruction for their particular learners." I think this is great because you can create groups based on what you need to work on with them.

I think Oculus would be so fun to use in a classroom. You can take students on field trips that you couldn't feasibly go to. You could also set up simulations so they can learn about different history and science topics. For instance say you wanted to do a lesson on the Gettysburg Address and you wanted your students to experience Abe Lincoln talking, assuming there was video then, you could find a simulation of him speaking and put the students directly into the action.

The digital divide is the divide between those with readily access to computers and those without this access. I personally am on the side who does have access, although I wasn't always. In school if I had a project I had to work out extensions with my teachers so I could make sure that I had enough time to go to the library to do it. Now that I'm in college I have a computer that I can use and access to computers walking distance away for when mine is acting up.

I think the digital divide might create some of the problems that I had to work with in school because not everyone has access to a computer. Like, not being able to get an assignment in on time. I would try to remedy this by giving extensions to those who don't have access to computers and by allowing them extra time whenever they are free to come to my class to work on their assignments, whether that be before school, after school, or during lunch. The teachers who always did that were the best because it made me feel like they cared about me getting my work done they weren't just like "whatever guess you're going to fail" like some teachers I had.

I feel like another way I could help out the students who can't get to a computer by setting up days to go to the media center or computer lab and having the whole class work on the assignment there. I had a few teachers who did that in school and I feel like it worked really well.

6 Classroom Website Woes

On the web I found the website of one Mrs, Lauren Miller who is a second grade teacher at Butteville Elementary School in Edgewood, California. On this page you see a little bit about her and pictures of a few of her students and things they've done in class. She has links to resources I assume she uses in class like Renaissance Learning and Go Noodle. It's a fairly simple website with not much on it.

I plan to use technology in all aspects of my classroom. For instance aside from having a class site and twitter. I plan to use technology to write my lesson plans and keep track of them. I plan to use it to track student's grades, to time assignments, and to take notes on my student's behaviors. I want my classroom to be very technologically based.

I really enjoyed working on the web evaluation assignment because it taught me what to look for when I look for websites as I plan my lessons. It taught me that not all websites are great even if they may look like they are, you have to dig a little deeper. Also, it taught me that more goes into is it a reliable sight other than authorship. 

3 Tech Talk and Newsletters

I've already had a tad bit of experience with planning out graphics for my classroom having been working with children for a few years, but I'm so excited to be able to make videos with them and find new graphics and images to teach them the same thing. I feel like having different ways of giving them the same information will help them to remember it so my classroom is going to have a lot of that, as well as just a lot of charts because I feel like breaking down the information in lists is an easy way to remember it.

Making my newsletter I learned a lot of different things. The biggest thing that I think I learned was how to do the columns. I've always wondered how teachers did that so playing around with it and figuring out how to go from one column to two and then back to one was so great.

Another thing I learned making my newsletter is that it was how to add in hyperlinks and I think that just comes in handy so much especially if you plan to have a technology based classroom like I do. This way I can email out a weekly newsletter and have the parents be able to email me or click on links to find the pictures and posts of anything and everything we do in the classroom.
